If you have symptoms of HIV or are diagnosed with AIDS, you may be eligible for free, short- term legal services through the Barristers AIDS Legal Services Project of the Los Angeles County Bar Association.

The Project provides free, one-on-one legal services to low-income residents of Los Angeles County by referring clients to private attorneys who volunteer for the program. The legal issue must be caused by or related to your illness. This includes simple wills, powers of attorney, debtor/creditor or landlord/tenant problems, insurance disputes, government benefit denials, and HIV discrimination.

All calls and inquiries are completely confidential. Just dial (323) 993-1640. The Project is staffed Monday through Friday, from 9:00 am to 5 :00 pm. Your call will be answered or returned within 24 hours during those time periods.

The Project Coordinator will ask you questions over the phone and either refer you to a volunteer attorney or to another organization better suited for your needs.

For additional HIV legal services within Los Angeles County, you may wish to call these other agencies.
